Today we want to show you some of our gorgeous female clients ” SAME DAY BEFORE and AFTER PHOTOS. ”
Last Thursday (6th November) the team at Professional Photographer magazine, as well as the sponsors, judges, contributors, winners and runners up, had a wonderful time celebrating at the PPOTY 2014 Awards (Professional Photographer of the Year). The celebratory evening, held to showcase the very best of photography in the industry, was held at the beautiful venue of Manor by the Lake, Cheltenham.
I had the honour to be shortlisted in 3 categories this year – Wedding, In studio and Portfolio of 3. And i was chosen as WINNER of the PORTFOLIO OF 3 category with series titled FOREVER. Yeah !
Images in my winning series (see above) where shot in May 2014 in Slovakia, country i was born in. I was asked by my grandparents to take a few photographs of them, so my family would have something to remember them by. Unfortunately they reached the age (mid 80’s) where they feel, they might not be with us for much longer, mainly due to poor health. Few years back my sister took an image of my gran grandmother (age 92) just 2 days before she suddenly past away. This image is cherished by our family a lot, especially because we only have a hand full of her photographs. My grandparents have many family albums with images dating back as far as 1880. And their living room has a large glass cabinet decorated with dozens of photographs of their children, grandchildren and grand grandchildren. It was only recently that i discovered that my grandfather lost sight in his left eye because a clamp used to hang images in darkroom miss functioned and hit his eye while he was developing images of my grandmother.
On the day of the photo shoot, i was given 4-5 minutes to take their portraits. It was late afternoon, the light was sparse and coming from the window on left hand side. I had to use higher iso, but i didn’t mind, because i knew the images would be converted to b&w to give them timeless feel. My grandparents sat down on their couch, started interacting with each other and i started shooting. I didn’t want to stop, because they were so affectionate, loving and real. It was a beautiful moment. I will never forget it. After we finished, the rest of my family joined us and we took a some 4 generation images.
The reason i chose to submit these particular photos is the impact they have on people in my circle and their reactions and comments. Every time i look at these images, i feel warm inside and a little teary to be honest. It is great to see that even after 60 years of marriage you can be IN LOVE. Family is very important to me. As i live with my husband in Edinburgh since 2005, i only get to see them once or twice a year. It was an honour being asked to be part of this moment in their life, and i will never forget it.
These printed and framed photographs will be travelling with me home (Slovakia) in 2 weeks time, where they will be cherished by our family.
Being shortlisted in 3 categories, and of course winning in one of them is a great honour. I started taking photographs about 2,5 years ago, when my husband infected me with his passion for photography. He has been my teacher and mentor ever since, all i know is thanks to him. Winning this title is a tribute to his patience and teaching skills.
Thank you PPOTY.
Here are some images from the night of the PPOTY 2014 Awards.
Are you getting married? Who will be your wedding photographers?
Wedding pictures are a cherished keepsake, passed down through generations, and the only commemoration of the hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds spent to plan the most important day of your life. Other than the choice of a spouse, the choice of your wedding photographers is the most important wedding-related decision you will make, and is not to be taken lightly. Following these steps can help you select the best wedding photographers to record your Big Day.
You need to forward think a little here, try and decide what style of photography would complement what you have planned. Many wedding photographers specialise in a certain style of photography, you want to make sure you pick the best wedding photographers for you. If you are nervous or uneasy in front of the camera, then maybe you should consider reportage wedding photographers, they focus on taking natural photographs & place less emphasis on you posing, which can make you self-conscious. Perhaps you’re getting married in a dress from the 50′s or 60′s and have a passion for things less modern, then maybe a vintage wedding photographer is for you. Will you be getting married in a white dress and travel to the church in a horse carriage? Maybe you’d like traditional wedding photographers. If you don’t know what style you want don’t worry, just speak to us.
When selecting your wedding photographers you are selecting more than just photographers for your wedding day. Personality is a huge part of the selection process and should not be overlooked or discounted in any way. You want to choose someone who gives you confidence, someone you are comfortable with and trust. Therefore, we recommend you spend some time getting to know them. ALWAYS meet the wedding photographers you are interested in hiring. You will more than likely be working with them for a year, or longer in some cases, by the time you factor in your engagement session and post wedding photography and albums.
While price is always a factor when selecting your wedding photographers, it should not be the only thing that matters. When it`s all said and done, your wedding photography will be along the wedding dress and wedding rings all you have to remember your wedding day by. Hire the best wedding photographers you can afford, not the ones who offer you the most products for your money. You can always save up and buy wall art prints later (plus do not forget presents from your guests …sometimes they come in an envelope). The bitter taste of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of a cheap price.
Check that your wedding photographers have the basics of a professional. That they are fully insured, they have not only solid camera gear, but also solid backup camera gear with them on the day, and that they have a wedding photography contract that states the rights and expectations of both parties. To find out what other people think of your wedding photographers you have set your sights on, ask them to see testimonials! Try and find out what their previous wedding clients have to say about them and their work. Hopefully, their reputation is as good as their photographs.

We knew from the beginning this wedding, this post, these images will be very special to us.
It all began on Sun, 24 Feb 2013 when we received enquiry about wedding photography on Isle of Harris. Stephanie`s 4 lines email literally gave us goose bumps :) (the good ones) White sandy beach, turquoise water, horses and bride and groom. Getting married on 12.July – our own wedding anniversary !! Of course we replied with: ” It would be absolutely wonderful spending our anniversary documenting your wedding day.
We spent 5 incredible days on Isle of Harris, with Tom & Stephanie, who travelled all the way from USA to get married on one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe – Luskentyre beach. Weather of course didn`t disappoint, as you would expect from the wild Western Hebrides :) Everything from hot-hot-hot sunny Thursday, amazing sunset on Friday, impressive clouds and raindrops of luck for Tom & Stephanie on Saturday to huge storm on Monday.
Fun before ceremony:
Absolutely beautiful and very personal humanist ceremony. Paul , you did great !
At this point rain started to get heavier and heavier, so Tom &Stephanie decided to meet us the next day at their luxury beach front cottage. We would drive to small village called Rodel where we planned to visit the 15th century St. Clement`s church for their couples portraits.
We then headed back to Luskentyre beach, for few more intimate and informal evening images.
